How to practice the Silva Centering Exercise Tips from Juan Silva      Here is some information from Juan Silva who, along with his brother José, has taken these methods to millions of people around the world.      When you practice the Silva Centering Exercise, there are three things you need to do while you close your eyes.      It's more than going into a nice relaxed position, and listening to a beautiful voice of the instructor, rambling on through a conditioning exercise, you must go to work. You must activate yourself. That's what we mean by "Dynamic Meditation."      We want you to do three basic things while you are listening to this exercise, to the Long Relax:      First, you should practice your concentration. Concentration is basic. It is the fundamental of imagination and everything else. If you don't have the ability to concentrate, it is hard for you to do anything else. You should concentrate before you do anything else.      Second, you should practice your imagination. We want you to exaggerate. We want you to learn how to exaggerate your imagination, because we feel you will be in a better position to control your programming. In enhancing your imagination, you'll be better able to do your healing work and to program yourself to get what you want. At the same time, it will maintain you active while going through the exercise.      We don't want you to close your eyes and go to sleep, or drift off and ignore the instructions. People learning the course sometimes do that because of a lack of experience in doing the relaxation exercise. It is natural for every one of us to do that sometimes.      By being mentally active, you avoid this to a big extent. You also avoid what often happens when students tell us, "I lost your voice, how come I didn't hear you." Of course that happens, because the mind wanders.      This is another reason you should practice your concentration, and practice exaggerating your imagination -- because you maintain yourself active right there, with what you are doing.      We must maintain our consciousness as much as we possibly can. I'm not saying that we won't go to sleep here and there, off and on. We will. But not for too long a period of time. We'll be in much better control of that.      The third thing you must practice is to coordinate the physiological relaxation with the mental relaxation.      It is easy to go into a mental relaxation. It only takes about two or three seconds once you acquire the proficiency. But you see, you leave your body behind. This is also true for people who might have taken the course four or five years ago. Yet when they do the Silva Centering Exercise, you can see in their body language - that their body is still erect - it is as if this is the first time they ever closed their eyes and went through the relaxation exercise.      That means that they have not practiced. They have not acquired the ability to relax properly.      Remember that we are a body-mind entity. We are not a body and a mind. We must relax the body and mind simultaneously. It takes a little longer for you to relax your body than it does for you to relax your mind. And in your body, there are tissues that relax before others do. The tissues that are most sensitive relax quickly.      It takes a little practice. Nevertheless, you start incorporating this physiological relaxation with the mental relaxation.      How do we do this? Here's are my suggestions:      In the Silva Centering Exercise, when the instructor says to project - or concentrate - your sense of awareness on your scalp area, that's where you start practicing your concentration. What are you going to do with these instructions? How are you going to carry these instructions out? You start concentrating...how are you going to do it?      I've got to project my awareness to my scalp area...what's my awareness?      Establish what your awareness is. It is not a jet, it is not a book. Let's say...it's a ray of light. Blue-white light...the purest light there is, the purest energy there is.      Assume that it is. It is easier for us to focus a ray of light into that area than anything else, so why not establish that your awareness is a ray of light.      That's where you concentrate on how you're going to carry out the instructions.      Next you are instructed to detect the vibrations in that area, the feeling of warmth caused by circulation...of course it is the blood circulation we are talking about.      If you don't concentrate on trying to feel the pulsations of those vibrations in that area, you'll never feel them. It doesn't mean you are going to feel them on the first effort, no. But by the second or third effort, you will start feeling them.      But you must take time, allow time for it. That's where your concentration comes in.      Now you know that this feeling is caused by the blood circulation, so why don't you exaggerate your imagination. That's where your imagination comes in. Imagine that there is a strong beam of light into that area, into a big chamber where there is blood circulating there, nice pure blood. Exaggerate that. Imagine it irrigating all the roots of your hair, things like that. Here's where you practice your imagination.      Then you are instructed to release and completely relax all tensions and ligament pressures from this part of your body. Don't just recite it; concentrate on it, exaggerate your imagination again.      How would you imagine your scalp being fully relaxed. Think. Concentrate. Maybe you would feel better imagining your scalp as if it were dropped all over, like...melting all over. Whatever it is, try that. Maybe it would feel like a warm, wet cloth over your head. Whatever it is, help your body. This is where you use your imagination. And this is where you start incorporating your physiological relaxation with your mind, with your mental relaxation. This is very important.      What's going to happen when you do that?      You will be much more relaxed at the end of that exercise than if you hadn't done that work. You will acquire a much deeper level of conscious awareness, to its fullest extent, because you've been busy.      You will have also learned how to handle your imagination a lot better than you did before. You'll have learned how to concentrate better. This is very important for your healing work where you imagine the subject - or yourself if you are working on your own health condition - imagine the affliction being corrected and the subject in perfect health.      It means also that you are going to acquire a deeper level, sooner, with conscious awareness. You are going to relax your tissues much faster, with conscious awareness. Remember that your brain is composed of tissues also, and your brain controls everything. It controls your motor system, your nervous system, your sensory system, your memory system...everything.      It's you...your brain. And it is a lower frequency, brain level, with conscious awareness, that will accept or reject your programming. It will accept or reject, because it still has a consciousness, a consciousness that still doesn't cease to be a censorship department. It may err at lot, but it is still a censorship department. The importance of continued practice       The Silva Centering Exercise serves as a basic reference for your bodily relaxation in every part of your body. You set the points of reference at that time.      However, the first time we did it at the beginning of the coursework, so many of us were so insecure when we first started - we weren't too sure whether we belonged in the class or whether we should be taking the coursework - and our mind was wandering - in other words, we were not wholly and totally committed to cooperating.      So before we realized it, half of the Long Relax went by without our totally getting into it. Consequently, the points of reference that should have been established during the first half of the exercise were not established firmly, so it would do us the most good.      When we did decide to actually join the instructor in relaxing, it was our first effort, and we didn't have any knowledge of how to relax our body and mind, of course.      As a result, people who have only gone through the Silva Centering Exercise one time, do not know how to relax completely. They must practice.      Since we deal with dynamic meditation, when we close our eyes, we do everything but go to sleep. We do not depend on a lethargic state to relax and lower our brain wave frequency in order to benefit from bodily relaxation on to eliminate stress.      It must be dynamically done...mentally...it must be mentally dynamically done. What I mean is, we close our eyes and go to work. We go to work using our imagination, our visualization. We can use one or use the other.      We have to do this because we must achieve these lower levels with conscious awareness. We cannot just go to the lower levels and allow our mental state to be altered. Do you know why?      The tissues of your brain are able to obey any instructions of yours at the alpha brain wave level.      You know how important that is. When we achieve these deep alpha levels, we are able to ventilate impediments that were registered in your brain due to past negative or faulty programming.      Now your brain cells and different parts of your brain are working with a lot less friction. Now they are able to enhance these particular emotions to where, when you previously had so much desire, now it is intensified, because there is less friction that surrounds it. It has been allowed to expand, shall we say.      The moment that we get to the ideal level for programming, and go ahead and program to get well - you know that the brain immediately is going to order the correct distribution of body chemistry to rectify any abnormalities - mental or physical - that may exist.      In other words, it is going to allow an interruption of the present pattern that is taking place, and allow nature to take its course.      And the only course that nature can take is to normalize things.      That's to correct all abnormalities, and to restore natural good health.      Now if on top of that we apply a strong programming at a particular ideal brain wave frequency level of programming, this is where remission occurs.      See how important it is to do more than close your eyes, sit back and listen?      You are supposed to close your eyes, sit back, and start imagining, visualizing, working.      And remember that visualization and imagination must be exaggerated while going through the exercise. The best way to practice      The best way to practice the Silva Centering Exercise (after you have learned it), to help you establish a very deep level where you can correct more problems and achieve more goals is as follows:      Memorize the Silva Centering Exercise. You can memorize it however you can. It doesn't have to be word by word. It is repetitive, so it is easy to memorize. But it doesn't have to be word by word, just the context of the exercise.      In searching for the correct phrase, it works a lot better, because of your intent, because of your involvement.      When you practice the Silva Centering Exercise, you must let yourself go. Do not hold anything back. Let go of any questions, doubts, hesitation, tension. Get totally involved, follow the instructions, and allow yourself to relax completely, physically and mentally.      What you actually learn to do is to convert the so-called "sub-conscious" level to what José Silva calls an "inner-conscious" level. You can begin to use the sub- conscious, consciously.      It is important that you have a reason for doing this. You must establish your purpose. Think about the benefits you will receive. Think about how you will be able to help people with the holistic faith healing techniques. Think about how they will be free of pain, how they will be more productive, able to do their job and help make life a little better. Remember their family, their friends, and how all of these people will also benefit. The more people who will benefit, the more desire you will have, and therefore the more effective your programming will be.      José Silva says that anything we program for - including health - should help at least two or more people.      You have already indicated that you have a great desire to help, by committing so much time and money to this home study course. That is a good indication of your desire. Now it is time to build on that desire, to increase it, and to transfer it, gradually, to lower brain frequencies, with conscious awareness.      The lower we take that desire, without altering it, the stronger it gets. Then you can use all of the energy of that desire in your programming. At your level, think of the reasons why you want to achieve your goal...why you want to get well. Who else will benefit when you get well?      The desire that you build up when you think of all of the reasons that you have for practicing, will give you an extra boost, so that you will do whatever is necessary to succeed.      In addition to that, when you carry that sense of purpose to level with you, then you are taking your desires and your hopes and dreams to those deep levels with you, and that is very powerful. It is one thing to have hopes and dreams at the outer level; it is even better to take them to the powerful inner levels.      So first, work on your desire; review your reasons for wanting to learn the UltraMind ESP System. Make sure you have your priorities and your sense of values right.      The next step is to learn the Silva Centering Exercise so that you can practice it.      Do not just lie back and listen to the Silva Centering Exercise on tape and let me do all the work. That won't do you a whole lot of good. Don't just go to sleep and let the tape play! You must do whatever you have to do to learn to remain awake and relax as much as possible.      You need to do it yourself.      Nobody else can do it for you, because... Nobody else knows how long it takes you to relax. Nobody else knows how tense you are. Nobody else knows what parts of your body you need to relax. Nobody else knows what you need, as well as you know. Nobody else knows where you hurt. Nobody else knows how much you hurt. Nobody else knows how long it takes you to let go and completely relax, without holding anything back.      When you have enough desire to practice on your own, to get involved, to do it for yourself, through your own efforts, then you'll be transferring that desire to those deep levels, and your desire at those deep levels will produce fabulous results.      After you have relaxed your body from head to feet, then relax mentally, by visualizing and recalling tranquil and passive scenes.      A great way to relax is to recall a place where you have actually been physically, where you were completely passive and relaxed physically and mentally. Then you have a "conditioned response" situation: When you recall all of the details of this "ideal place of relaxation," your brain will attempt to re-create the conditions that existed in your body at that time, and your body will respond by relaxing.      When you recall the sights and sounds and feelings that you experienced when you were so relaxed, your brain will cause your muscles to relax the same as they were then.      The more you practice, the easier it will be to do it.      Once you learn the exercise, the sequence, what to do and how to do it, then practice on your own, without the tape to guide you. If somebody else takes you to level, then while you are listening to them, you might not be totally involved. When you have enough desire to do it yourself, you will receive great benefits. If you have that desire, then use it.      When you achieve the state of deep relaxation, physically and mentally, then you can be assured that you are at a very deep level of mind.
